Police play a key role in creating a community of compassion and prosocial

behavior. The authors call this “actively caring for people” (AC4P), and with this educational/training manual they instruct readers how to create an AC4P culture in their communities. Inspired by applied behavioral science and select principles from humanism, this guidebook teaches seven critical AC4P lessons through real-world examples, insightful dialogue, and exercises for applying the life lessons in the readers’ communities.

Law enforcement relations have been particularly tense in recent years, but with a better understanding of the evidence-based AC4P principles and applications, police and citizens can work together interdependently to cultivate a culture that promotes acts of kindness and reduces interpersonal conflict, bullying, and violence.
